Another Rape Accusation Against Donald Trump Resurfaces

Amid falling public support, a growing gap between Trump and Hillary Clinton in the polls, and reports that Trump’s campaign is running out money, a lawsuit accusing Trump of raping a 13-year-old minor has resurfaced.

The lawsuit was actually originally filed in California a few months ago, but it was dismissed, not on the merits, but due to issues with improper paperwork. It’s been re-filed in New York, where Jane Doe alleges that, 20 years ago when the victim was 13 years old, she was raped by Donald Trump at a party held by convicted sex offender and billionaire investor Jeffrey Epstein.

According to the lawsuit, first reported by Real Deal, Epstein lured young women to his home and promised them cash and modeling gigs. However, once in the home, the women were subjected to a violent sexual assault. Some of the details in the complaint have been corroborated by a witness.

Here are the details, via Gothamist:

Monday’s complaint details extremely violent and horrific alleged encounters between Trump and Doe. In what Doe’s attorneys describe as a “savage sexual attack,” Trump allegedly tied her to a bed and exposed himself before raping her. When she pleaded that he stop, Trump allegedly “responded… by violently striking Plaintiff in the face with his open hand and screaming that he would do whatever he wanted,” according to the suit.

Afterwards, Trump allegedly threatened the plaintiff, saying that her family would be “physically harmed if not killed” if she were to speak about the abuses. Epstein allegedly proceeded to rape Doe twice more, attempted to strike her, and screamed that he, rather than Trump, should have taken her virginity. Epstein also allegedly reiterated threats to Doe’s family.

It gets tricky because, as is often the situation in matters of sexual assault, the statute of limitations protects the accused. In New York, the statute of limitations is only 5 years. Jane Doe is seeking to have the statute of limitations waived, arguing that she had her “freedom of will” to speak.

Trump has not yet commented on the allegations, but he did deny them when they were originally leveled against him in California, arguing that they were politically motivated.

It is not, however, the first rape allegation against Trump. His ex-wife, Ivana Trump, once accused him of rape, though she clarified that it wasn’t in the “criminal sense,” whatever that means. In that case, Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, also asserted that a husband could not legally rape his wife (as I recall, that was the case under New York law at the time of the alleged rape).

A woman named Jill Harth also filed suit against Trump in 1997, accusing him of repeatedly raping her in Ivanka Trump’s bedroom. She later dropped the suit after her husband settled a lawsuit with Trump.

It should also be noted that Trump’s view on rape is not exactly progressive.

Trump’s history with rape also includes a campaign to get Mike Tyson a lenient sentence for raping an 18 year old, suggesting that Tyson pay his victim a large sum of money rather than serve jail time.
