Donald Trump Invited President Obama's Half-Brother to the Debate But Why?

For tonight’s debate, Donald Trump has invited two guests. One is Patricia Smith, the mother of an American official who died in Benghazi. Smith blames Hillary for her son’s death. I understand why Trump would invite her. He wants to pin Hillary down for Benghazi and he wants to personalize it. Smith also spoke at the Republican National Convention in August.

But why invite Malik Obama, President Obama’s estranged, Kenyan-born half-brother, who is now an American citizen who lives in Washington D.C. (when he’s not in Kenya)? Yes, Malik Obama supports Donald Trump, but so what? Is having the endorsement of the President’s half brother going to move a lot of undecideds? Is Trump going to drop some bombshell about Malik’s relationship to the President that’s going to change the dynamics of this race?

Trump knows that Barack Obama is not running, right? That he’s running against Hillary Clinton?

I really, honestly don’t understand the end-game here, and I’ve searched the alt-right-osphere. It is a terrifying place where Michelle Obama is a man, President Obama’s gay lover is Rahm Emanuel, and Hillary Clinton is a lesbian, which is apparently a danger to our national defense. But Malik Obama? Beyond some vague suggestions that he was in the Muslim Brotherhood, there’s not a lot that has stuck to Malik Obama, and how does having someone who the alt-right believes is in the Muslim Brotherhood endorse Donald Trump help the GOP nominee?

I have no idea. This is another inscrutable Trump decision.

What we do know, however, is that Bill and Chelsea Clinton will not be shaking hands with Malik Obama, Patricia Smith, or any of the members of the Trump family. The Clinton campaign nixed the customary family handshakes before the debate after Trump tried in the last debate to embarrass the Clintons by sitting the Bill Clinton accusers next to him.

It doesn’t mean there won’t be any funny business tonight, but I’m at a loss to explain how Malik Obama might play into it.
