Donald Trump Has a Mental Meltdown During a Pennsylvania Rally
Those of you who stayed up late Saturday night probably had a fantastic time on social media. The NYTimes dropped the bombshell about Donald Trump’s 1995 taxes, Alec Baldwin did a perfect Trump impression during the SNL season premiere, and Trump went into full-on meltdown mode during a Pennsylvania rally.
Donald Trump had hoped to turn around his terrible week during that rally by using leaked audio from a Clinton fundraiser to turn Bernie supporters against Clinton (by essentially twisting words that were sympathetic to Bernie supporters into an insult). However, Trump — likely rattled by the NYTimes report — abandoned his teleprompter and quickly went off-book. Instead of courting Bernie voters, Trump ended up insulting Bernie Sanders, calling him “Crazy Bernie” at one point.
At another point during the rally, Trump mocked Hillary Clinton’s pneumonia by mimicking her actions during the 9/11 memorial (the optics on that were terrible), he projected his own rage spiral onto Clinton (“She could be crazy. She could actually be crazy”), and then he even suggested that Hillary had been unfaithful to her husband, Bill Clinton.
“Hillary Clinton’s only loyalty is to her financial contributors and to herself. I don’t even think she’s loyal to Bill, if you want to know the truth. And really, folks, really, why should she be? Right? Why should she be?”
Those more coherent statements, however, don’t really get to the heart of how rambling and out of sorts he seemed to be. Take this one quote, which makes absolutely no sense.
“How many people have acid-washed or bleached a tweet?” Trump asked the crowd. “How many? That you deleted? So you deleted it but that’s not good enough. No, this is getting crazy. Our country is becoming a third-world country.”
Huh? Or this line:
“Right now, you say to your wife: ‘Let’s go to a movie after Trump.’ But you won’t do that because you’ll be so high and so excited that no movie is going to satisfy you. Okay? No movie. You know why? Honestly? Because they don’t make movies like they used to — is that right?”
And then Trump referred back to The Apprentice in a way that suggested that he’d much rather be doing that — doing anything — than what he was doing at that very moment.
“Oh, I could be doing the ‘Apprentice’ right now,” Trump said at one point, seeming to harken back to a happier time in his life. “I loved it — 14 seasons. How good was that? Tremendous success. They wanted to extend — I could be doing the ‘Apprentice’ now. Somehow I think this is a little bit more important. Do we agree? Just a little bit?”
Here’s a few highlights from the rally, many of which will likely dominate cable coverage and late-night talk during the early part of the week. The guy is losing his marbles.
