Democrats Are Going to Help Trump Pay for that Goddamn Wall, Aren't We?

With the announcement this morning that Donald Trump is essentially kicking DACA to Congress to solve over the next six months, a legislative solution will need to be drafted, and guess what? The Republicans have Democrats over a barrel on this. Why? Because we really want to keep the Dreamers in this country, and for good reason: It’s 800,000 good people who might otherwise be deported. Meanwhile, Donald Trump really wants us to build a Wall, even though Mexico has no intention whatsoever of paying for it.

What to do, what to do?

On both the Pod Saves America and Lovett or Leave It podcasts last week, Favreau, Lovett and Co., all agreed that they would be prepared — and Democrats should be prepared — to a compromise here, allowing Trump build his damn wall in exchange for saving the Dreamers (and comprehensive immigration reform). Basically, we the Democrats would agree to let everyone who is already here stay, and they the Republicans would agree to help them keep everyone else out, right?

I mean: We’d have to, because the alternative is too fucking cruel. We get to save the lives of 800,000 real-life people, and he gets an overly expensive, ugly symbolic Wall (which probably ends up meaning a whole lot more fencing and not an actual 12 foot Wall with solar panels).

You know who else thinks this is a good idea? Donald Trump’s most trusted advisor, Fox & Friends. From WashPo:

“I have an idea,” co-host Brian Kilmeade said during a segment with Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano. “Let’s build the wall and let the dreamers stay. Isn’t that called compromise?

“Yes, that is compromise,” Napolitano replied.

At that point, Napolitano turned to face the camera and addressed Trump directly. “Mr. President, not a bad idea,” he said.

If Trump wasn’t already thinking of that idea, he will now. And my guess is, it could work. I even think Trump’s base would go along with this. Democrats would also swallow our bile and sign any such compromise because what choice do we have?
