This weekend Debra Messing was honored by GLAAD for her Excellence in Media Award for her work in “one of the most iconic gay shows of all time … Smash” (and also Will & Grace, which will be returning in September). She devoted the bulk of her nine-minute acceptance speech to criticizing the Trump administration (much to the chagrin, I assume, of Susan Sarandon). Messing also took a few minutes and directed part of her speech to Ivanka Trump, speaking as “one Jewish mother to another.”

“It’s not enough to simply say that women’s issues are important to you,” Messing said. “It’s time to do something. You can change the lives of millions of women and children just by telling your dad stories about real people who are suffering.”

“Please stop blindly defending your father, and start defending what you say you believe in. You can’t just write #womenwhowork and think you’re advancing feminism. You need to be a woman who does good work.”

Messing also suggested that if Ivanka managed to get Stephen Bannon out of the White House, we’d get her back into Nordstrum, and I’m OK with that trade.

Here’s the entire speech. Jump to 5:20 for the Ivanka Trump takedown.
