It’s not that Rachel Maddown didn’t have anything tonight when she revealed the first two pages o Donald Trump’s 2005 tax returns, it’s that she didn’t have anything that would necessarily damage him. Nothing that Rachel Maddow revealed wasn’t already divulged by the White House earlier today: Trump made $150 million in 2005. He paid $5.3 million in taxes, and then another $31 million in the alternative minimum tax, something that Trump would like to get rid of.
The news? That a rich guy gets away with paying less taxes than poor people (by percentage). Yeah, no shit.

Is Trump hiding something? Almost certainly. Did Maddow find it? No. But she presented a lot of possibilities, and thanks to the first two pages of that tax return, she gained a huge audience for those possibilities. Maybe other journalists will follow up on those.
So, not much there. In the meantime, in the previous hour, Anderson Cooper revealed this:
NEWS: Comey privately told Sen. Whitehouse and Graham he'd confirm if Russia/Trump FBI inquiry exists by tomorrow. https://t.co/6kshQeIFNk

What will that mean tomorrow? Who the hell knows? Will James Comey reveal that there is an investigation? That’s generally not the kind of thing that Comey would reveal, which suggests that he’d probably reveal that there is not an investigation, in which case fuck that guy. On the other hand, he did reveal that there was an investigation into meaningless Hillary Clinton emails two weeks before the campaign.
So who knows!
We’ll find out tomorrow, but the hope is that this is not yet another tease.
