A verdict was quickly reached by a jury hearing E. Jean Carroll’s defamation case against Donald Trump today. The jury did not find that Trump raped Carroll but did find that he sexually abused her. The jury awarded her $2.7 million in compensatory damages over a defamatory Truth Social post in which Trump suggested Carroll’s allegations were a “hoax,” “a complete lie,” and a “con job.” After additional damages for sexual battery, as well as punitive damages, E. Jean Carroll was ultimately awarded $5 million by the court.

The finding was civil in nature, not criminal. The jury was unanimous and reached its decision in less than three hours. Carroll’s is one of over a dozen allegations against the former President for sexual harassment, sexual assault, and/or rape. It is the first one, however, to be tried in court.

Donald Trump is scheduled to appear in a Town Hall on CNN tomorrow night.

Trump has responded to the verdict on Truth Social, writing “I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS. THIS VERDICT IS. DISGRACE. A CONTINUATION OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME!”
