7 Anti-Trump Sentiments That Vaguely Restored Our Faith in Humanity Today

When I woke up this morning and read Petr’s piece on Trump and his call to ban Muslims from entering the country, it felt like the lowest point in American politics in as long as I could remember. Here was a guy leading in the GOP polls by a huge amount basically arguing against the very tenets of the Constitution.

But you know what? The fact that so many people came out against him — even many in his own party — felt mildly relieving. Large swaths of Americans were recognizing how dangerous his policies were, and they were rejecting him. They were putting American values (for lack of a bette word) over fear-mongering rhetoric.

Here were 7 of the most humanity-restoring of those anti-Trump sentiments:

7. This Hillary Clinton tweet:

6. WWE Superstar John Cena pushing back against Trump with this statement on Today:

This is brash, this is bold, and this is brash. I’m with you, I don’t know how it works out. The last time we did anything like this was in World War II, and that was one of the more reprehensible acts by the United States of America. “We are the melting pot, except for you.” That does not go along with our DNA. Trump is being trumped, there’s no other way to say it.

5. Joe Scarborough cuts Donald Trump off and goes to a commercial break when Trump won’t shut up

4. Tomorrow morning’s The Daily News front page:

3. Paul Ryan’s condemnation of Trump. “This is not conservatism,” adding, “”Some of our best and biggest allies in this struggle and fight against radical Islamic terror are Muslims, the vast, vast, vast majority of whom are people who believe in pluralism, freedom, democracy, individual rights.”

2. Lindsey Graham calling Trump a “race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot” and said the only way to make America great again is to “tell Donald Trump to “go to hell.”

1. J.K. Rowling’s swipe at Trump.
