The Agonizingly Depressing Commodification of 9/11
Buzzfeed is typically not synonymous with great journalism, but this piece (via Steven Lloyd Wilson) about the experience of a guy who lost a sister in 9/11 visiting the 9/11 Memorial Museum is crushing. (Buzzfeed)

By the time I finally reach the gift shop, the indignation I’ve been counting on just isn’t there. I stare at the $39 hoodies and the rescue vests for dogs and the earrings and the scarves and the United We Stand wool blankets waiting for that rush and can’t muster so much as a sigh. The events of the day have already been exploited and sold in ways previously incomprehensible, why get mad at a commemorative T-shirt now? This tchotchke store — this building, this experience — is nothing more than the logical endpoint for our most reliably commodifiable national tragedy.

Michael over at DListed hated the Michael Jackson hologram performance at the BBMA’s. If i’m being totally honest, I liked it and I think it gave people a way to see him the way we all want to remember him. Dancing. It gave me feels. Sure it looks a little fake in places, but I have to figure it was amazing from the audience. (DListed)
The reasons James Franco loves grad school are disappointing. (Flavorwire)
James McAvoy dropped by The Daily Show last night to discuss joysticks, d*ck jokes, meeting himself and Hugh Jackman’s charisma with Jon Stewart. The man is sexier than he has a right to be. McAvoy’s okay too. (The Wrap)
