Happy Sukkot, folks! I’ve been kind of remiss where it concerns Pajiba Love for a few days, in part because it seems like the entire political and cultural landscape has been dominated by Brett Kavanaugh. Thursday and Friday kind of broke me, and I just had no more desire to round up links than you folks had to read them.
But we’re back with … Brett Kavanaugh news. Like, for instance, what a sham this FBI investigation appears to be. (WashPo)
But on the other hand, they have interviewed Deborah Ramirez, and she has supplied the FBI with the names of witnesses who saw Brett Kavanaugh allegedly stick his penis in her face. (CNN)
Someone else from Yale has also gone on record to say that Kavanaugh clearly misrepresented/lied about his drunken indiscretions in college, saying that he was a “belligerent” drunk and once threw a beer at a man’s face, which led to a mutual friend being jailed. (NYTimes)
And I know that this is going to piss everyone off, and I totally understand why, but for the first time, I sort of understand why Kellyanne Conway is the way she is: Internalized misogyny is a hell of a thing.
“I feel very empathetic for victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment and rape. I’m a victim of sexual assault … But you have to be responsible for your own conduct,” Kellyanne Conway pic.twitter.com/bBSBEz3TYF— Shannon Watts (@shannonrwatts) September 30, 2018
Are we good where it concerns Kavanaugh now? Let’s move on to better news, like the fact that Elon Musk will pay $20 million and resign as Tesla’s CEO after his dumb Twitter meltdown. (The Mary Sue)
Meanwhile, in case you missed it, Kanye went on a MAGA rant on SNL last night (it was not aired) …
Chris Rock’s Instagram story captured Kanye West going on a rant about Trump after “SNL” last night. Cheering and boos can be heard from the audience. pic.twitter.com/aXmG9JirrM— Frank Pallotta (@frankpallotta) September 30, 2018
… and then he posted this to Twitter:
this represents good and America becoming whole again. We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America and create jobs. We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love pic.twitter.com/a15WqI8zgu— ye (@kanyewest) September 30, 2018
And then Captain America Chris Evans was like, Fuck this!
There’s nothing more maddening than debating someone who doesn’t know history, doesn’t read books, and frames their myopia as virtue. The level of unapologetic conjecture I’ve encountered lately isn’t just frustrating, it’s retrogressive, unprecedented and absolutely terrifying. https://t.co/4jCFwB4T5U— Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) September 30, 2018
Amen, Cap. On the other hand, it’s just “Kanye being Kanye.” (The Root)
Meanwhile, Gwyneth Paltrow married that guy who married Gwyneth. (Dlisted)
Damnit, Sarah! Twelve million people still watch The Walking Dead. It’s still the second highest rated show on cable (behind only Game of Thrones). It has not reached “Is that still on?” status. (OK. Maybe it has to our bubble, but whatever!) (Lainey)
And also, those of you who quit on it because of Scott Gimple should at least sample its return, because Gimple has almost nothing to do with it these days and Angela Kang is running the show. (Uproxx)
WTF did Lindsay Lohan do again? Jesus. (Celebitchy)
We finish Banned Book Week with vel veeter’s review of Boris Pasternak’s Doctor Zhivago, which was never published in Russian in the Soviet Union during Pasternak’s lifetime. It had to be smuggled out to be published internationally. "He also won the 1958 Nobel Prize, which was definitely a kind of trolling act by the committee and had he accepted it would have been exiled or imprisoned. Instead, he said something to the effect of ‘I have to turn this down and WE ALL KNOW WHY.’" Would you be willing to risk prison to read a book your government has banned? (Cannonball Read 10)
