Oh, Dickie Greenleaf, You Scamp. Single Again?

Good afternoon my flaky scones and clotted creams (blech to that one). British magazine “Time Out” amassed a panel of 150 film industry experts who voted on “The 100 Best British Films.” I tell you what, even a hoity-toity anglophilic film snob like me hasn’t seen half of the films on this list, and I’ve only seen two out of the top ten. But a) the inclusion of #15 makes me very happy, indeed and b) I watched the Death At A Funeral remake last night, so I may be losing my hoity-toity edge. (Time Out)

Check out this interview where Matt Lauer questions Michelle Obama on the advisability of raising children in the White House. Matt, buddy, they served homebrew at their Superbowl party made of honey from Michelle’s garden. The White House is the BEST house. (Double Ex)

Here’s a recap of some of the mind-boggling costs associated with last weekend’s Super Bowl. The $900 parking cost allegation is one thing, but the $450,000 of taxpayer money that funded four Navy F-18s flying over the CLOSED-ROOF of the stadium? That’s blood-boiling. Please, let’s not even talk about the light-up sperm people dancing to the Black Eyed Peas. (Washington Post)

Some blame the likes of Snooki or Larry The Cable Guy for the dumbing down of America. I blame the teachers who still teach Creationism over Evolution in school. (NPR)

But it’s not like dumb is anything new. Check out this moronic ancient punishment for women who got mouthy. Spoiler alert, it’s really offensive. (Neat-o-rama)

I’m not certain, my little platelets, if this exhibition pitting white blood cells against white blood cells is Neat Fun Happy Science Times or Scary Creepy Eugenics times. (Wired)

Ah, nannies and middling blonde starlets rejoice! Jude Law is back on the market. The oft-naked Olivia Wilde is also suddenly single. Pipe down, I’m working on their celebrity couple portmanteau…um…Jeremy’s Iron? I got nothing. (Celebitchy)

Were you worried, my dears, about poor, shy, retiring Keith Olbermann and where he was going to land after leaving MSNBC? Worry no longer! He’s headed to a television station none of us have! I’ll miss your bombast, my friend. (Warming Glow)

You guys love math jokes, right? What’s that? You don’t? Crap…um…well you at least like pie, right? The kind you eat? Okay, good, I was getting worried about you. Check out this Pi/pie shirt. (Woot)

Speaking of pie, my darling charts and graphs, this Link Wench beat has caused me to develop a crippling addiction to infographics. I snort them up I love them so. Danish designer Peter Orntoft has gone to the next level with his “Infographics in Context.” I don’t pretend to understand them all, but the stunning visuals of the first one alone is worth the click. (Peter Orntoft)

Or you could always just click on this “Doctor Who” infographic. I’ll never not post a “Doctor Who” infographic. (Laughing Squid)

You know by now that I get fascinated by weird things. Here’s a music video that somehow manages to incorporate images from 1949’s Little Women (the Elizabeth Taylor one, not the Katherine Hepburn one) without losing a drop of modernity. It’s seriously weird and amazing. Weirdmazing. Check it.

And now for something completely self-serving. Here are my friends, The League of S.T.E.A.M., making Panic! At The Disco look steampunktastic. Most of those props were the product of my friends’ strange and unusual brains. Full disclosure, the song ain’t great.

Joanna Robinson has always wondered what a panic (!) at the disco would look like. Spangly and coke-fueled, I spose. If you have an idea, let her know here: [email protected]
