OK, quick note, and I’m trying to put this as sensitively as possible. There have been a rash of sexual assault allegations in the past few days, and I want to make sure to give them their due even though, as you’ll see, two of them have been shut down pretty definitively. But I want to highlight them because people on Twitter seem to be playing a very dangerous game that could make it even harder for actual victims to come forward. As white Americans filled the best seller lists with books on anti-racism, Jake heard the complaint that Angela Y. Davis wasn’t being centered as she should be, so he picked up her 2003 work, Are Prisons Obsolete? Professor Davis illustrates the ties that bind slavery to the current state of the profit-driven Prison Industrial Complex. "And while people of all races are victimized by it, Davis shows that because it has roots in slavery, mass incarceration is inseparable from anti-blackness, fomented in the States and globally spread." Have you included Professor Davis in your reading? (Cannonball Read 12)
