Because it’s been a while since cranky old guy has complained about superhero movies, Brian Cox has heeded the call. Cox claims that “cinema is in a very bad way” because of “Marvel, DC and all of that,” which is an odd take at the moment. There has been and will only be one Marvel movie this year: Deadpool & Wolverine. Sure, it made a butt-ton of money, but only after the franchise spent 2023 bleeding out. It was the exception not the rule. As for DC Studios, it released zero movies this year, and it won’t have another one in theaters until July 2025. There couldn’t be a more wide-open field for non-superhero movies, and yet, that’s when X2: X-Men United star Brian Cox decided to strike. It’s called timing, champ. (THR)
