Lainey is off this weekend. Lainey is one of my favorite people in the world and deserves a vacation because she has to copy-edit me, but you know what Lainey does for vacation? She and her husband take a long road trip to Trader Joe’s and plan a whole vacation around it. It’s the most adorable thing ever. In fact, it’s going to be the topic of this week’s comment diversion.
There was finally a mass exodus of advertisers on X (formerly known as Twitter) yesterday following Elon Musk amplifying the Great Replacement Theory. Advertisers that paused their spending (during the most important quarter of the year for advertising) included Disney, Apple, IBM, Lionsgate, Paramount, Peacock … and basically, all of them. Musk’s response has been to threaten a “thermonuclear” lawsuit against Media Matters, which accurately pointed out that ads from those advertisers were appearing next to hate speech. (The Guardian)
Meanwhile, another SpaceX rocket exploded this morning. (Reuters)
The SAG-AFTRA strike kept a lot of people out of work. Not Jenna Ortega, who has been jumping from one project to the next. She’s due to begin shooting the second season of Wednesday soon, but for now is wrapping the Beatlejuice 2 shoot and looks seasonably appropriate doing so. (Lainey)
Sydney Sweeney’s Women’s Health photoshoot is not good. (GFY)
It’s freakin’ 2023, and Caitlin Jenner is still out here using the R-word. REPEATEDLY. (Page Six)
After Jacob Elordi was a total dick about his experience on The Kissing Booth movies, Taylor Zakhar Perez — most recently of Red, White, and Royal Blue — is being a total sweetheart about it. I’m also gonna use a photo of Taylor Zakhar Perez as the header because no one wants to look at Elon Musk and honestly, I’m running out of Lee Pace photos. (Variety)
Harry and William are no longer speaking and don’t plan to do so again until their father’s funeral. (Celebitchy)
It’s been a while since I covered a Pajiba Love, and there’s no more Dlisted or Jezebel to link to! And Popsugar looks like a gift guide website now. At least The Mary Sue is still around, and I’ll let Britt Hayes cover Sam Altman’s departure from OpenAI. I’m happy to see she is still in the game. (The Mary Sue)
I don’t write about it, because I like to keep at least one thing for myself, but I dig Bosch. There’s another spin-off coming. This one will be about Detective Renée Ballard. (TVLine)
Whether you like The Curse or not (and it’s still to early for me to say), you can’t deny that Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone are crushing their promotional tour. This is amazing. (AV Club)
We haven’t covered Fellow Travelers yet, but FilmSchoolRejects has! (FSR)
Post-strike, Jimmy Kimmel is now leading both Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon in the ratings. (Deadline)
