If there’s one good thing that came from the mess that was this season of Project Greenlight and the shitstain of a movie it produced, it was giving a spotlight to a larger conversation about diversity and the wonder that is Effie Brown. (Uproxx)

Did you watch last week’s You’re the Worst, and think that the horror house they visit was over-the-top? Well, here’s one woman’s story of how a similar no-holds/slaps/simulated drowning/locking in freezers-barred experience left her traumatized. (LAist)

It’s not unusual for JK Rowling to keep adding to the Harry Potter canon by revealing characters’ secret backstories. This is usually silly or fun, or a great chance to laugh at hordes of bigots who can’t handle finding out Dumbledore was gay all along. But now Rowling has released a lengthy essay on how these characters she made up would feel about Israel, and surprise! The creations that sprung from her own mind totally agree with all of her own opinions. Oh, except Harry, cause he’s a child and doesn’t get the nuances of the situation, duh. (Vice)

Ardaigle recommends this book, which isn’t her normal cup of tea: Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson. It was "… a really tough read, but eye-opening regarding the prison system in the United States, and the many ways in which it is broken." Five stars for this book that should appeal to more than just the "tree-hugging bleeding heart liberals," like ardaigle. (Cannonball Read 7)
