Seriously, Delta Airlines? Seriously?!

In October, medical help was delayed to an unconscious man with a woman screaming next to him even though there was a doctor — a chief resident — two rows away, because the flight crew didn’t believe she was a doctor. Because she is black.

In August, a Muslim couple was kicked off a plane because the flight crew was uncomfortable because the husband said “Allah,” the Muslim word for God. They were returning home after an anniversary vacation to see their three children.

This morning, two customers were removed from a Delta flight because Adam Saleh was speaking to his mom on the phone in Arabic. His mother only speaks Arabic. As you can see from this video, several passengers on the flight were upset that Saleh — a YouTube star — was being booted for no other reason than speaking a different language.

Meanwhile, in October, a flight crew said nothing while a Trump supporter loudly berated “Hillary bitches” on the plane (the airline eventually banned him for life, but the flight crew should have removed the man immediately).

This is the country we live in right now. We can’t control the racism of others. We can’t make a flight crew see reason. What we can do is choose a different airlines, which is exactly what I plan to do as I book a flight to SXSW this week. This is inexcusable, and it’s not just Delta. It’s a culture that’s been taught by politicians and cable news to fear someone because of their religion.

It may not make any difference in the end, but the least we can do is what that man in the video above did, which was to attempt to stand up for his fellow passenger.
