28 Percent of Planned Parenthood Donations Are Now Coming from 'Mike Pence'

It’s been twenty-two days since our country elected to have the Dumpster Fire-flavored Cheeto Who Shall Not Be Named to be the next President of the United States, and many of us are still doing what we can to keep going and to keep our heads up as we accept this as reality. And as much as he is deserving of our contempt and disrespect, he is not the only person to be working and residing in the White House come January 20.

The other person is Vice President-elect Mike Pence. The same Mike Pence who was just booed, I mean bullied, by every audience member at a recent performance of Hamilton (Which, despite the fact that it’s sold out until August of next year and that you’d have to rob a casino alongside Ocean’s Eleven in order to afford a ticket, increased its box-office take in the days that followed). The same Mike Pence who believes in conversion therapy for the LGBTQIA community (a.k.a. he believes in gay people being repeatedly electrocuted so that they will stop being gay and start being straight, good, God-fearing heterosexuals. The same Mike Pence who hates Planned Parenthood and despises their very existence.

Now there really isn’t much that can be done to undo the fact that Clayface and Mike Pence are going to be running this country, short of having The Flash run fast enough to travel back in time and change the past so that Hillary Clinton wins. (But knowing The Flash, he’d probably fuck that up and we’d all end up with President Darkseid instead). What we can do, however, is continue supporting the causes and organizations that he’s opposed to and do everything we can to see that they’re able to continue doing the work that helps make this country one that is worth living in.

If we can show our support to, say … Planned Parenthood by donating money to them, that would be great.

If we can show our support to Planned Parenthood by donating money to them and having said money donated to them in Mike Pence’s name, so that Pence will be informed via a thank-you note from Planned Parenthood that they have received a donation in his name, that would be fan-fucking-tastic.

And that’s exactly what many people have been doing for the last few weeks, to the point where Planned Parenthood has received up to 72,000 donations in his name alone, according to The Cut:

Based on data provided to the Cut by a spokesperson, 28 percent of the donations Planned Parenthood has received since the election have come from “Mike Pence.” On November 22, that figure was 25 percent, or 50,000 donations out of nearly 200,000 total, while on November 15, it was 12.5 percent, or 20,000 donations out of 160,000 total.

Whatever happens after January 20th (and we know that most of it isn’t going to be entirely pleasant), the least we can do is remind ourselves that having two people who have repeatedly shown hatred and disrespect towards women and minorities is something that should never be considered normal, and that the anger we’re feeling about this is worth holding onto, if only so it can be put to use in making things a little bit better.

And donating money to an organization that is essential and valuable in providing women with the medical assistance that they need and deserve, and doing it in the name of someone who hates said organization and who will constantly be reminded that it exists, and that it does more to contribute to this country’s greatness than he ever will…when it comes to doing your part to make things a little bit better, this is certainly a damn good place to start.

You can make your donations to Planned Parenthood here.
