House Majority Whip, Rep. Steve Scalise, was shot this morning during a baseball practice among Republican Congress people. Rep. Mo Brooks told CNN that he was on deck when the shooting occurred, and Scalise appears to have been shot in the hip. Capitol police officers were also shot. Other staffers were also apparently hit — at least five people were shot. No fatalities have been reported; in fact, NBC is reporting that everyone is in stable condition.
The gunman was carrying a rifle. Between 10 and 30 shots were fired. The gunman is now in custody.
