According to Deadline, our favorite vampire slayer is set to return in Hulu’s upcoming sequel to the ever-popular Buffy The Vampire Slayer series. The pilot also boasts writing credits from Poker Face writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman and will be directed by Chloé Zhao, the Academy Award-winning director of Nomadland.
There was a time when SMG wouldn’t touch Buffy with a ten-foot pole. But I guess twenty-two years is a lot of water under a lot of bridges and the distance between Buffy and series creator Joss Whedon has created enough of a buffer for her to feel comfortable with a return.
Let’s not get too excited. “Nearing a pilot order” is not a done deal. It’s hard to think of many reasons why this wouldn’t be a success, especially now that Gellar is attached in a recurring role. While there’s no word yet on whether or not other original cast members will return, we have to get a glimpse of Willow at least and find out how Giles is doing.
Put this in my eyeballs right now. Buffy mentoring the new generation of slayers is what we need to begin healing the world.
