I’m still on Facebook, primarily, to keep track of friends’ Birthdays. I am slowly but surely adding as many Birthdays to the Google calendar on my phone so I can get rid of Facebook, but then if I lose that phone or Google decides to delete everything I am f***ed (and there is, sadly, no other way to keep track of birthdays. my hands are tied). I don’t want that to happen because I like keeping track of friends’ birthdays so I can send them a little video message, which I started doing almost four years ago.

In the before times, I would just try to call or send a gift card or something. My time and finances are limited these days, so I’ll enlist my twin sons to help. They’re four now, but since they were just a few months old, I’ve taken videos of us singing Happy Birthday (me with a ukulele). They weren’t singing at first, but over the years they have graduated to singing, playing instruments, and mugging for the camera. It’s fun and often gets a great reaction. So, when I saw Ryan Reynolds doing a video message for Rob McElhenney, I got all warm and fuzzy.

I don’t know Ryan Reynolds or Rob McElhenney, aside from the fact that they are both funny people and the former is not to be f***ed with. Their friendship is about as public as one can be, with them purchasing a football club together and often jokingly honoring each other online for special occasions. While their friendship has made people concerned for the bond between McElhenney and longtime friend Glenn Howerton (jokingly and not jokingly), it can be fun to watch the two show their love for each other, especially with their signature humor.

Case in point: McElhenney just celebrated another trip around the sun, and Reynolds was there to congratulate him. The Two Guys and a Girl star released his first proper MCU movie in Deadpool Ampersand Wolverine last year. People assumed that McElhenney would appear, and Reynolds revealed that he did have a filmed cameo. However, it wound up on the cutting room floor. To make it up to him, Reynolds spliced the almost-Minecraft Director into some of his other films in a silly little video.

Most of the inserts look silly and out of place (intentionally so), but a few hit really well. A cat-eyed Night Man showing up in Green Lantern almost makes too much sense. It’s a fun video from one friend to another, and I couldn’t help but talk about it as we head into the weekend. It’s nice! Also, don’t worry, Glenn Howerton sent out a birthday message for McElhenney, too, and it was even sweeter. The juice is still there!
