I’ve been obsessively following the weirdness behind The Batman: Part II as signs that the sequel will be canceled started piling up. Turns out, there was a reason for that weirdness: Matt Reeves’ film universe might be folded into the DCU. James Gunn has previously stated that Reeves did not want to go that route, but the director seemingly tipped his hand in January when he admitted that he’s not entirely opposed to the idea.

While that played out, The Batman: Part II saw its film date slip further away. The sequel was supposed to start shooting in March/April of this year, but Robert Pattinson has revealed that he won’t suit up until much later. Via Deadline:

Robert Pattinson has said that filming on Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II is due to start at the end of 2025.

Speaking to Deadline on the London red carpet for his new movie Mickey 17, Pattinson said he couldn’t reveal plot details about the anticipated film but claimed “it’s cool, though, it’s cool.”

Has Robert Pattinson talking about the movie at a red carpet premiere finally convinced me that The Batman: Part II is actually happening? Gonna be real, my theory’s not looking great! Like its maker, the ravages of time have not been kind. That said, this development is interesting for an entirely different reason.

I can’t help but notice that The Batman sequel will now start filming after James Gunn’s Superman hits theaters. That could easily be coincidental, but it does lend itself to rumors that Warner Bros. is not feeling confident about the reboot. Considering Gunn’s track record with Guardians of the Galaxy, I don’t buy those rumors. I think Superman will be fine, but its success could determine what happens next with The Batman: Part II.

If Superman crushes it, I’ll be very surprised if Gunn’s DCU doesn’t absorb the Robert Battinsonverse. If Superman does just OK, RBattz will probably be left alone and then aggressively mined for more HBO shows that better have Cristin Milioti in them. Really can’t stress that part enough.

As always, take all of this with a huge grain of salt. I’m just some online weirdo who thinks about comic books too much and gets excited for Arby’s. It’s a miracle DOGE hasn’t tried to recruit me yet. “Did that dork just buy a Batman figure? See if he’ll light WIC checks on fire.”
