Renewals and Cancellations: 'Ted Lasso'

Fresh off Wednesday’s edition of Renewals and Cancellations (hello, Landman season 2!), there’s only one show to talk about today—but it’s a big one. As long-rumored—especially after Apple TV+ picked up options on Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift (Rebecca, Roy Kent, Leslie Higgins)—Ted Lasso season four is a go.

And the reason the actors who play the AFC Richmond players weren’t picked up (several have signed on to other shows recently) might be because Ted will be coaching a women’s soccer team this season. Jason Sudeikis broke the news on The New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce—fitting, since Sudeikis is a big KC fan.

Sudeikis said they’re currently writing the fourth season but didn’t confirm whether the women’s team would be based in the U.S. or England. I kind of hope it’s in America—otherwise, it would completely undo the third season finale, which was a brilliant episode in an otherwise up-and-down season (to say the least).

I’m sure feelings are mixed about its return, given that lackluster third season after Bill Lawrence seemingly handed full creative control to Sudeikis, who had a tendency to meander—though Sudeikis would argue that the audience just didn’t understand.
