As if losing his mother to cancer wasn’t traumatic enough, Adam Smith was dumbfounded by what he found in the freezer of their shared home a day later. A large shoebox wrapped in plastic was a mainstay of the family freezer throughout all of Smith’s childhood, moving with them from place to place. As a child, Smith believed the layers of wrapping hid a cake topper or perhaps another keepsake of his mother’s.
Nope.
The Sunday after his mother passed away from lung cancer, 37-year-old Smith grabbed a bottle of water from their home’s freezer before deciding to see exactly what was inside the box. It was an infant wrapped in a pink blanket.
Smith discovered that his mother kept a dead infant wrapped in a blanket inside their freezer through four houses and possibly 50 years time. He called the police, who took the body and have classified the infant as a suspicious death. An autopsy is scheduled to find the cause of death, as Smith remembers seeing no blood or visible trauma in his short interaction with the body.
