Paul Thomas Andersons’ much-anticipated next flick has, so far, flown under the radar. It’s got a hell of a cast, though, and is poised to make some noise ahead of awards season with its late September release. In addition to DiCaprio, the film — written and directed by PTA — also stars Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, and Benicio del Toro.
That’s a mighty fine cast. And the logline is certainly distinct from the kinds of films we typically associate with Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia): “When their evil enemy resurfaces after 16 years, a group of ex-revolutionaries reunites to rescue one of their own’s daughter.”
The “ex-revolutionaries” probably explains the machine gun in the short teaser released here to tease the release of the full trailer next week. It’s only 22 seconds, but it’s enough to set the tone.
One Battle After Another hits theaters on September 26th (it’ll probably make a festival appearance ahead of that).
