'Landman's' Oil Propaganda Is Even Worse and Stupider Than You Imagined

Landman. Aside from being one of the most tone-deaf, wrong-side-of-history pieces of fiction in a long time, Landman is a show that really has just a terrible, terrible name.

Land. Man.

Every time I see it, I want to pronounce it like The Wire’s Jay Landsman’s surname is pronounced. Landman. That would at least roll off the tongue a little bit. But no, they make me force out the drawn out ‘man’. Like it’s the name of some daft superhero. Aquaman’s terrestrial cousin whose power is dirt and soil. Landman. He can command an army of moles.

Landman. I don’t give a sh*t if it’s the genuine title that land exploiters give themselves (it is), it’s annoying. Which is fitting, I suppose, for an evil, annoying show that wastes the skills of Billy Bob Thornton, though I guess he gets to push the boat out and play someone even more malevolent than Fargo’s Lorne Malvo.
