Which Brat-Packer Just Got Paired with Brad Pitt for Netflix's A-List Feature Film?

Back in June, Netflix announced they’d made a game-changing move by managing to snare the rights to distribute Brad Pitt’s next starring vehicle, a black comedy in which he’ll play a four-star general running America’s war campaign in Afghanistan. Based on Michael Hastings best-selling The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan, and written and directed by David Michôd (Animal Kingdom [Ben Mendelsohn!], The Rover), War Machine focuses on Pitt’s “rock star” General, based on real-life Commander of Forces in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal. McChrystal was outed as having openly mocked government leaders (including President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden) in Hastings’ 2010 Rolling Stone article, after which McChrystal personally apologized to Biden, resigned, then quickly retired. Instead of a direct interpretation of The Operators, War Machine will be a fictionalized satire of the events, which sounds a hell of a lot more interesting — and Netflix-y.

Having already nabbed Batman v Superman’s Scoot McNairy and less impressively, Topher Grace, Deadline is now reporting a certain Brat Packer and godfather to Robert Downey Jr.’s first son will play Pitt’s second in command, also a general. Recognize him from his pre-Brat days?

Yeah, by now you’ve got it — Anthony Michael Hall — that nerdy, funny-looking kid, who is somehow now 47 years old(!) just landed himself a role as a General opposite Brad Mothereffin Pitt. You’ve come a long way, Rusty.

War Machine premieres on Netflix in 2016.
