Update: The release date has been confirmed (May 29th) and there’s now a trailer.
I know that the shine has worn off the Internet’s love affair with Arrested Development after a disappointing fourth season, which was 5 years ago now. This is what happens when you build up anticipation for eight years and create expectations that cannot possibly be met.
In either respect, Mitch Hurwitz and the gang have been teasing season 5 for several years now, but it’s one of those things where no one is ready to believe it until there’s an actual release date.
@TVMoJoe @tvoti @sepinwall @TheFienPrint @MichaelAusiello @franklinavenue Rather odd way of announcing the release date for the new Arrested season. Can anyone confirm the date on these pics posted on the AD reddit? Seems like late Emmy move. #AD5? pic.twitter.com/spxurG4KxC— Greg Feltes (@gregfeltes) May 7, 2018
That’s not an official announcement, but one would think that if Netflix were going to go through the trouble of creating a promotional stair car that it would have the right release date on it, and Hurwitz did promise when they released a new cut of season 4 that season 5 would be coming “real soon.” The only catch is: May 29th is the Tuesday after Memorial Day, which would be an unusual day for a Netflix release.
So, it looks like it will be back soon, and like it or not, Jeffrey Tambor will also be a part of the fifth season.
