Listen Netflix: You Don't Have to Say Yes to Everything

It’s cool that Netflix has enough money to buy all the shows and movies, and I appreciate that their catalogue of original programming has broad appeal, whether you’re into great dramas (Orange is the New Black, Bloodline), smart comedies (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Bojack Horseman), dumb comedies (The Ranch, Fuller House), sci-fi (Sense8, Stranger Things), documentaries (Making a Murderer) kid shows (Justin Time), or international programming (Narcos, Marco Polo, that French show with Gérard Depardieu). They’re even into movies now. Little Prince starts streaming today, and they’ve had two Adam Sandler movies, Idris Elba’s Beasts of No Nation, and David Ayer’s upcoming Bright.

But just because the streaming service never says no to renewing its television series, no matter how bad they are, doesn’t mean they have to cater to every demographic. In fact, no one needs to cater to the EDM fans, because EDM fans are too busy tripping to actually watch an EMD movie (see last year’s terrible Zac Efron EDM movie, We Are Your Friends, which made the $8 I had to pay to review it).

Later this month, Netflix will stream their own EDM original movie, XOXO, starring that guy from Good Wife, Haley Dunphy from Modern Family, and that guy from the Bill Lawrence show no one watched. And here’s the thing about XOXO: It’s not about the EDM scene, man, and it’s about the music.

No thanks.
