Sanrio’s Hello Kitty brand is keenly about cute, cuddly animals who love pink and being cute. But this property got a quirky shake up last year when they introduced Aggressive Retsuko. The twentysomething red panda is cute, but not so cuddly. By day, she works in a soul-crushing office gig, where she’s treated with no respect and forced to question her self-worth. By night, she rages with death metal. Now, her adventures are will premiere globally on Netflix with the animated series Aggretsuko.

Here’s the first trailer.

The South China Morning Post notes the frustrations explored in Retsuko’s story speak to young Japanese women, who feel undervalued and underpaid. “It may be a little much to describe this as the experience of a whole generation,” a woman who asked to be credited only as Mari said, “But I do know a lot of young women who go to karaoke to reduce stress and that ‘baby metal’ [young female stars performing heavy metal] is very popular right now, so maybe there is something in it.”

Aggretsuko hits Netflix on April 20th.
