Netflix’s failures are infrequent — Flaked, Hemlock Grove, and in my opinion, Love — and Friends from College is unlikely to join those ranks, because the talent behind this is unreal.
First off, it comes from Nicholas Stoller (Get Him to the Greek, The Muppet Movie, Neighbors) and his wife, Francesca Delbanco, and it’s about a group of Harvard graduates in their 40s experiencing varying degrees of success in their personal and professional lives. Stoller and Delbanco are Harvard grads in their 40s, so it’s material that is familiar to them.
If Netflix and Nicholas Stoller working together isn’t enough to pique your interest, here is the cast:
Keegan-Michael Key
Cobie Smulders
Annie Parisse
Nat Faxon
Fred Savage
Jae Suh Park (Randall Park’s wife)
Production on the half-hour comedy will begin this fall. Stoller will direct all eight episodes. It should fill the void left by Grinder and Married.
