Netflix was just being extra AF this past weekend. On their YouTube channel, they debuted several new clips highlighting their upcoming medieval fantasy cartoon comedy Disenchantment, from The Simpsons/Futurama’s Matt Groening. Starring Abbi Jacobson, Nat Faxon, and Eric Andre in addition to a host of other cartoon and comedy luminaries, the series is set to launch on August 17th. But since that still feels like forever from now, these tasty tidbits will just have to tide us over. Good news: it still looks like a lot of fun!
In addition, there was a whole bunch of exciting announcements and updates thanks to the Television Critics Association press tour. The TCAs are a chance for networks, cable channels and streaming platforms to take turns wowing a room full of slightly bored television critics with panels highlighting the most exciting programming set to launch in the next 6 months (the TCAs happen twice a year, by the way). But while most presentations are lucky to include a couple of interesting tidbits, Netflix, of course, went overboard.
Like hey, how about the colorful new dark comedy Maniac, starring Jonah Hill and Emma Stone as people taking drugs created by Dr. Justin Theroux? It’s based on a Norwegian series, and all 10 episodes are directed by Cary Fukunaga. THIS IS FINE.

Or how about Kiernan Shipka’s turn as Sabrina, that witch who is a teenager but is also in Chilling Adventures? Well guess what — you’ll be able to watch it in time for Halloween!

(this may be to make up for the fact that Stranger Things won’t be returning until Summer 2019, because the creators want to “get it right” or something…)
Octavia Spencer is getting her own Netflix limited series, which she’s exec producing with LeBron James no less!

And I dunno WTF is going on with this, but it’s Guy Pearce in a YA show about shapeshifters and honestly I’ve sat through 8 episodes of worse:

Even Chuck Lorre is hopping on the Netflix bandwagon, with a new comedy starring Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin. I imagine it’ll be like Two and a Half Men, only instead of a kid they’ll just complain about their age or something.

And while we may still be smarting over the cancellation of Everything Sucks, Netflix did swoop in to save another series: Lucifer!
Netflix saved #Lucifer because it is "a fantastic show that has really resonated with audiences in parts of the world where we licensed it so we felt it was important to help that show continue for those fans," said Cindy Holland, Netflix's VP of Original Series #TCA18 pic.twitter.com/z1gzBQRP8N

Let’s face it — at this rate, we’ll never be able to quit you, Netflix.
