‘Law and Order’ is Coming to Streaming via Peacock, Baby!

I love Law & Order SVU. It has provided me with literal days’ maybe weeks’ worth of entertainment if you tally up the amount of time I’ve spent watching (and rewatching…and rewatching…and rewatching) episodes over the course of its 20-year run. My love for Olivia Benson, Fin Tutuola, and the rare monkey that Cragen rescued out of the basketball that one time runs deep and pure.

However, something has been missing in my life and that something is Lenny Briscoe and Detective F*ckboi Mike Logan—but I don’t have to miss them anymore because Law & Order original flavor is coming back to our screens, baby! (Sure, those among us who have cable have had almost constant access to this beloved show, but I don’t have cable, so let me have this win, please? Thank you.)

We all need another streaming service like we need another hole in the head, but I am making an exception for Peacock, NBC’s new service because they’re giving me what I’ve always wanted. Every episode of Law & Order (and SVU and CI) will be available to stream. No word yet if Trial by Jury, Law & Order: Los Angeles, or Exiled: A Law & Order Movie will be available, but here’s hoping. (The movie wasn’t very good, y’all, but I’m a fan so I’ll watch it again to see if I was wrong. I seem to recall a twin plot, and someone finding out their husband was cheating by getting an STD. Typing that out just now makes it sounds awesome; I don’t know why I made that judgment back in the day.)

So when will you be able to watch the ‘94-‘95 season of the show, also known as one of the best television seasons of any show, of all time? (Don’t @ me on this, you know I’m right. You still have Logan, paired with Lenny, and you have Jack McCoy as DA instead of Ben Stone who was good, but not as great as Jack. Rounding out the core squad is Lt. Van Buren and ADA Kincaide. That’s a dream team right there, friends.)

According to Variety, Law & Order is expected to be available upon Peacock’s launch in May 2020.

Try not to get too excited, though. According to the source, not every ep will be available from the get-go. Not sure what that means yet but I’m hoping we get the 1990-2004 episodes, which gives us both the Logan years and the Briscoe years. The only years really worth the hype, tbh.

For the cost of $4.99 a month with ads, or $9.99 a month without ads, you can have about as much Law & Order as you can handle. I will be getting the ad-free version because I am not great with money, and also, with the sheer volume of Law & Order I will be watching, the amount of time I would spend watching those ads will be more valuable than $5 a month for the upgrade because all I can tell you is that I’m going to breeze through this show and keep doing laps around it, like I do with my beloved SVU.

Lenny, Mike, it’s good to have you back.
