Wait, Charlie Cox is Saying There's a Chance He Might Still Be Daredevil? I'm Listening

Last week, Netflix dropped the bombshell news that it was canceling Daredevil despite the show turning in probably one of the best seasons since this whole little Marvel experiment began. Granted, Iron Fist and Luke Cage were unceremoniously canned alongside reports that tensions were reaching a boiling point as Disney began ratcheting up its own streaming service, Daredevil seemed like it might be safe for at least one more season — until it wasn’t. In fact, it’s been revealed that Netflix pulled the trigger at the very last second and caught everyone from Marvel executives to the stars themselves by surprise.

Of course, the person fans want to hear from the most is BULLSEYE, BITCHES Matt Murdock himself, Charlie Cox, who is finally opening up about the news that his hallway fighting days might be over. And if you’re wondering why I said “might,” well, you tell me how to read this.

Entertainment Weekly reports:

“A lot of us really expected to keep going, and I certainly did,” he tells EW. “The truth is, I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell, and although I understand [the cancellation], I’m very saddened by that.

“It’s just how business works,” he continues. “But also, these characters mean a lot to people. It’s weird to think there’s a chance I won’t be playing Matt Murdock ever again. That’s a bizarre feeling, because that character has been such a huge part of my life for the last four and a half years.”

If that sounds a hell of a lot like there’s a possibility that Cox could still be the hairiest little Daredevil in Marvel-town, then you’re going to really hate this next equally-as-cryptic remark:

Still, Cox admits he would want to play the character again. “Oh my God, yeah,” he replies when asked whether he’d be up for returning to the role if given the chance. “I don’t know how this would happen, but maybe one day we could pick up the baton and do it again.”

Just so we’re clear, there’s a chance Cox might still be Daredevil, but he doesn’t know how it would happen. What the hell am I supposed do with that?!

On one hand, it sounds like there’s a lot of red tape that could prevent Disney+ from using the Netflix version of these characters, which admittedly sounds wonderful in the case of Iron Fist and probably explains why Marvel just announced a Shang Chi movie. Sometimes you gotta salt some earth. On the other hand, Charlie Cox said there’s a “chance” he won’t be Daredevil again, and the Russo Brothers recently revealed that the Netflix characters almost became official MCU canon in Infinity War. However, that notably didn’t happen, and it’s becoming more and more evident that Marvel is going full steam ahead with ignoring basically every show that isn’t part of its new Disney+ lineup.

In short, I’m never going to see Wilson Bethel throw office supplies at Oddly Furry Daredevil again, am I? I hate this stupid timeline.
