Prince Now Setting Out to Conquer Books

Yesterday, at a private club show in New York, The Purple One announced that he’s currently writing his memoirs with Random House. And he’s serious when he says memoirs, according to Prince himself “We’re starting right at the beginning from my first memory, and hopefully we can move all the way to the Super Bowl. We just started, we’re going as quick as we can, working tirelessly.” It will be interesting to learn how Prince views his journey as a musician, and as a person.

While this is a thrilling announcement, it sounds like maybe the show itself was wasted on the audience. Rolling Stone definitely gets in a few jabs at how “professional” of an event this was:

“You know how many hits we got, right?” he said as they came fast and furious: “When Doves Cry,” “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” and a thumping “Controversy” where he demanded the lights off and told everyone in the mostly buttoned-up, business-casual crowd to “find somebody to dance with.”

Come on, New York, who wears business-casual to a Prince show?

Prince assumed that most in the crowd of less than 200 packed inside the hallway-like Avenue — members of the press, book professionals, VIPs like Harry Belafonte and Trevor Noah — knew the gist of the three-minute announcement before they arrived.

Oh. Well I suppose most of them has as much fun as they were physically capable of having.
