It’s happening. After days of rumours and speculation, it was finally confirmed that Oasis are reuniting for a UK tour in 2025. This’ll be the band’s first performance together in over 15 years, thanks to the infamous war between the brothers Gallagher, Noel and Liam. If you thought you could hold a grudge, you haven’t experienced these guys. In the band’s first statement, they declared, ‘The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.’

The band will be playing in five cities — Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin — between 4th July and 17th August. There are also plans to expand the tour to Europe. Tickets go on sale this Friday, so prepare for the inevitable Ticketmaster fallout and to explain why you had to remortgage the house to your spouse.

For you young ones, it’s important to explain just how big a deal this reunion is. Oasis is one of the defining bands of the ’90s. They’re one of the biggest-selling British bands of all time, with over 75 million records sold worldwide. Their 1994 debut album, Definitely Maybe is one of the cornerstones of British rock and the Britpop movement. Rolling Stone ranked it at number 217 on their list of the 500 greatest albums ever.

But bigger than the music is the story. Liam and Noel Gallagher may have defined an era through their music, look, and attitude, but it was their seething hatred of one another that made them truly legends. In 2009, prior to the group’s break, Noel called Liam ‘rude, arrogant, intimidating, and lazy”, describing him as “the angriest man you’ll ever meet […] like a man with a fork in a world of soup.’ Noel once headbutted Liam when he made a joke about Noel’s daughter not really being his. Both have alleged that the other has been verbally and physically intimidating towards them and their respective families. A record label once released a 14-minute track of the pair fighting a single, and it charted! When they weren’t making derogatory comments about one another, they were getting into public fights with anyone who looked at them a bit funny. They had a big rivalry with fellow Britpop icons Blur, among others. They were the hellraisers of the ’90s, bucket hats and all.

So, for some, the idea that the Gallagher brothers have put aside their differences for a reunion is like finding out that Santa is real and Half Life 3 has a release date. The BBC has a live blog covering the news; it’s that shocking. This is something even the most optimistic Oasis fan had only imagined in their wildest dreams.

But a lot can happen between now and next July. Frankly, I wouldn’t blame anyone who decided to sit out buying tickets because they’re convinced the gigs will be canceled anyway. It’s like going to see the Fugees: Maybe you’ll get a good gig (four hours later than advertised) but when it’s inevitably cancelled, you can’t even be mad because it was always going to happen. You could be in the crowd for that Oasis concert, the band 45 seconds away from walking on-stage, and Noel will call Liam a pr*ck and everything will go tits up. It’s gambling for people who don’t like casinos. The thrill is in the risk. And the chance of an on-stage punch-up set to ‘Wonderwall.’
