What Do 'Fargo's' Betsy Solverson and 'The Walking Dead's' Carl Grimes Have in Common?

Last week, showrunner Noah Hawley and much of the Fargo cast hit PaleyFest NY and discussed the series’ second season. During the conversation,
Cristin Milioti — who plays Betsy Solverson — spoke about getting into character and specifically, a couple of specific appearance-related requests she’d made. Milioti first asked the wardrobe department for a pair of high-waisted jeans, mentioning she’d always wanted to try them, but unfortunately, the pants were never rounded up. However, Milioti was much more successful with her vision for Betsy’s hair, which the actress wanted to resemble another Coen brothers character — No Country for Old Men’s Anton Chigurgh:

Milioti as Solverson:

And, a world away — both in its timeline and story — someone else seems to be channeling Chigurgh. Check out Chandler Riggs’ unfortunate Carl Grimes ‘do:

Who’d have thought such a bad haircut would inform any, never mind two completely different characters, one a 30-something female and the other a male teenager.

One fun aside from the Fargo panel happened when executive producer Warren Littlefield related the following story about how Cristin Milioti had never heard of a fellow cast member’s iconic role in a popular series that ran for over eleven years.

Littlefield: “And Ted Danson talks about, ‘Well, back when I did Cheers…’ and Cristin goes, ‘What’s that?’”

Milioti: “I asked him if it’s real because I’ve never seen him in it.”

Jean Smart: “No, you did not!”

Milioti: “I’ve never seen Ted in anything. “

Smart: “Really?!”

Milioti: “One night I was like, ‘Could you send me your reel, please?’”

Smart: “Oh my god!”

Littlefield: “So, I got to sit and watch Ted pitch Cheers. I was like, this is amazing!”

And, in the last bit of cool trivia culled, shooting alongside Fargo in the Calgary mountains was Alejandro Inarritu (The Revenant). Hawley mentioned that because there wasn’t enough snow during the period they were filming, they had to bring in snow from the mountains — where Inarritu’s crew were located — creating what Hawley referred to as “snow wars.”
