Two People And One Vile Piece Of Shit Dead In Louisiana Movie Theater Shooting

Another hideous killer has murdered strangers with no apparent motive in a movie theater. It’s almost three years to the day since 12 people were murdered at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado. Now it’s two dead, and seven injured—some critically—because they went to a Thursday night screening of Trainwreck in Lafayatte, Louisiana, and some fucking loathsome slug of a man waited 20 minutes, then shot the gun he’d brought with the sole purpose of murdering strangers.

This is the shit of nightmares and horror movies. But it’s just our reality now. I just saw Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal on television lamenting, “This could happen anywhere.” And he’s right. It can happen at movie theaters. It can happen at churches. It can happen at schools. Again and again. And we do nothing.

Maybe not nothing. We mourn. We pray. We “pull together” to help the survivors, and you can by contributing to the GoFundMe page to help pay for the medical bills of two teachers who were wounded while going to the fucking movies. But we’ll make no real changes to gun culture. It’ll be more outcry for and against gun control coming to nothing. And a few months or weeks or fuck even days from now, we’ll do this all again.

They know the name of the shooter. But fuck that piece of shit. We don’t need to know his name. He murdered at least two people, then tried to flee among the panicked crowds. But when he saw the police had arrived, he shot himself instead of facing the consequences of his heinous actions.

I don’t pretend to have a solution to all this.

From war heroes to cowboys to gangsters to just about every action movie to ever, our culture is deeply ingrained with love of the gun. And even the mention that gun control might increase creates a spike in gun sales. In the wake of the Charleston shooting, stores pulled the Confederate flag from shelves. I don’t remember hearing of a single store deciding they’d no longer sell guns.

Our nation is making great strides in areas of healthcare, marriage equality, and trans awareness. But when it comes to guns, we have a serious blind spot. And as I write this, I worry I could swap about five words and repost it again and again and again, screaming into an abyss where they are just words. And they won’t matter one bit.
