'Transformers' Teams Up With Uber to Do What Autobots Were Made For: Helping You With Your Errands

If you’re familiar with Uber, you probably know it as a convenient, moderately priced sort of DIY taxi service. Obama likes it. European cabbies hate it. What you may not know is that Uber is actually a clever front invented to disguise the presence of alien robots.

Either that or it’s a ridiculous cross-promotional marketing campaign. One or the other.

This past week, Uber (which lets you hire an independent driver through a phone app) started mixing Optimus Prime in with their regular drivers.

The Autobot first hit Dallas, then Phoenix yesterday, and Los Angeles tomorrow. Which doesn’t make sense because the rides (while free) are limited to 15 minutes, and as Cher’s dad in Clueless taught us, “everywhere in LA takes 20 minutes.”

As far as over-the-top marketing goes, this one is pretty damn neat. I mean, I’m still not going to see this movie, but I’d let Optimus Prime take me to the airport.

Via Uber.

Everything Vivian Kane knows about Los Angeles, she learned from Clueless. And she lives in Los Angeles.
