Do you love beer and travel? The Smithsonian wants you.

The Smithsonian National Museum of American History is on the hunt for a beer historian, who’ll be tasked with travelling the U.S. for three years, visiting American breweries, conducting tastings and interviews of the brewers behind the beers. This is all in an effort to chart American brewing history.

This might sound like it’s a hoax or too good to be true, but the Smithsonian considers beer a major element to America’s food culture and history. Curator Paula Johnson explains, “We have collected food history for many years, so when we were doing the research for the exhibition, which is all about big changes in the post WW II era in how and what we eat, one thing we were curious about is the craft beer movement. We were looking at wine, coffee, cheese, artisanal bread, and farmers markets. Well, this movement with small-scale, local regional beer is part of the ethos.”

On top of the bragging rights of having the coolest job at any pub night, the lucky person chosen for this choice gig will also get a $64,650 salary plus benefits.

You’ll find the full details of the job and how to submit at Washington City Paper.

Kristy Puchko wonders if cocktail historian is a vocation.
