There has been no shortage of great cinematic works released in the 2020s. Aftersun, Perfect Days, The Zone of Interest, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Parasite—I could go on. These are transcendent pieces of art that push boundaries, plumb the depths of the human condition, and, by virtue of their existence, drip feed hope in humanity at times when that hope seems desperately low on supply.
And yet.
And yet in one fell swoop they’ve all just been dwarfed. Eclipsed by a short film/visual poem so potent that it brings a tear to one’s eye. Behold. All hail the arc of the trash can.
