The Author of the Next James Bond Novel Thinks Idris Elba Is 'Too Street' to Play 007

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty goddamn sick of racist assholes making racist comments, and claiming they’re not really racist. And if I hear one more racist asshole’s bullshit reason for why Idris Elba can’t be cast as the next James Bond, my head is probably going to explode. So, you might wonder why someone who feels the way I do would even bother reading or writing about said racist assholes, and I’ll tell you exactly why: because every one of those racist assholes should be publicly exposed as a racist asshole, so everyone will know what racist assholes these people are, and in this case, not read one more line of one of this racist asshole’s books. Am I naive for thinking that could actually happen — that people would hear about a guy like Anthony Horowitz and stop buying or reading his writing? Maybe. But, if even one person reads this piece and stops reading this racist asshole’s books, I’ll consider today a tiny victory.

Who is Anthony Horowitz? He’s an author who was chosen by Ian Fleming’s estate (family) to write the next 007 installment (Trigger Mortis), in which he brings back Goldfinger’s Pussy Galore, and returns to 1957, era of the “Space Race.” Horowitz also wrote his own young adult James Bond knockoff series, Alex Rider, after being rejected for a Bond film.

“I wanted to write a James Bond film. I met the producers years and years ago and tried to persuade them. That was when Alex Rider came into my head. They were talking about the next movie, not offering it to me. I thought, ‘Sod you. If you won’t let me make a Bond film, I’ll make my own up!’ By then Roger Moore was about 50 and way too old to be playing 007, so I thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if James Bond was a teenager?”’

The Rider book series was a hit, however a film adaptation didn’t do well, released only a few months apart from Casino Royale.

Apparently, Horowitz believes all this Bond adjacent stuff makes him the authority, and after spewing his “not bitter” opinion about the Daniel Craig era Bond films, he’s ready to give us his thoughts on the possibility of Idris Elba taking over the helm as James.

“Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better. [Adrian Lester]

For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”

Yeah, this guy isn’t suave at all.

And “too street” has nothing to do with color.
