That's Actually Hilarious, Chris Evans, But Your Eyebrows Are Not The Reason I'm Excited For Captain America

No it’s not the Evans brows that excite me. It’s these brows, the best in the business.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Chris Evans and his bulgy, glisteny muscles. I also love Captain America’s lead actress, Haley Atwell. She’s the anti-Megan Fox. But, above all that, I love Hugo Weaving. If Andy Serkis is the chameleonic face of Hollywood, then Weaving is its voice. And what a voice. Were you worried when you saw the costume design for Captain America’s Red Skull? I was.

But when I found out Weaving would be voicing (and acting) the role, all my fears melted away. This is Agent Smith! This is Elrond! This is V! This is Megatr-eh, forget that one, Weaving certainly has. So I’d like to take a moment and pay homage to Weaving. I think, as an actor, he gets overlooked and is written off as simply campy or cartoonish. Oddly enough, it was his role in the very campy The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert that long ago convinced me he was a strong performer, not just a cock in a frock on a rock. And while it’s certainly exaggerated, his strong work as V, using only physicality and vocal work, is staggering. So let’s take a moment, shall we, and heap some praise on ol’ Hugo. He’s earned it. Me? I’ve already bought my ticket to Captain America. Thor and The Green Lantern can go screw.
