Subscription Addiction: Candy Club Dishes Out The Delicious Sweets We Deserve

Two years ago, my family and I went on a ten-day bus trip across Ireland. It was wonderful. We visited the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, the Blarney Stone, and forged a plethora of warm memories. But one of the more unexpected joys of my visit came from wandering down winding roads and cobblestone streets to local candy shops. There, massive glass jar sparkled with vibrant treats. It was like the “Candy Man Can” musical number from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory minus the leering merchant. My husband and I kept treating ourselves to medley bags of gummies, always delighted by the variety to be found outside the basic gummy bear or sour patch kid. So, when Candy Club and its gorgeous goodies popped up in my Facebook feed, I was a moth to the flame.

You might remember a similar service called Treatsie sourly disappointed just last month. But I have a sweet tooth that won’t be tamed, a heart that won’t be broken by maple-flavored nonsense, and a soul that demands decadent delights. So, I gave Candy Club a go.

How It Works

This monthly subscription service is all about choices. But only as many as you choose. First step, pick if you want a Custom Box or a Curated Box. As you might guess, Custom allows you to choose your own three canisters from a variety of licorice, chews, gummies, sours, or hard candies. Far more than are pictured here:

But if you’d rather trust the experts to your monthly box, you can go Curated, selecting only a club: Sour, Sweet or Mix. I got Curated: Club Mix.

After you’ve chosen your box, you go to checkout and choose your subscription/rate. Like most of the boxes I’ve reviewed, there are discounts for committing longer. The prices range from $19.99 a month to $27.99 a month. But I also found that if you create a login, you’ll get scads of discounts emailed often.

How It Went

The box arrived quickly, including three containers of treats, a card guiding me through the contents, and in place of styrofoam stuffing or tissue paper padding, a generous helping of Sweet’s Cotton Candy Salt Water Taffy! Admittedly, taffy is not my jam, but I admire the color, and my Mister confirms the cotton candy flavor is on point.

Albanese Mini Gummy Butterflies

IMG_0502.jpg

Official Description: These delicate little butterflies offer delicious fruit flavored of grape, strawberry, orange, blue raspberry, wild cherry and green apple. Hold onto them if you can because these sweet little treats will be flying away!
Overlord Review: I love gummies. But not all gummies are created equal. Some are too chewy. Some leave a slimy or slick texture on your tongue. These are divine, light, and lovely. They have a bouncy bite, and a vibrant fruit flavor that makes them downright addictive. They actually taste like fruit, not the fruit snacks that tried to make us all believe “purple” was a flavor. Plus, they are bite-sized, which could be well suited to little candy crushers.

Vidal Cherry Chicken Feet

Official Description: Gummy feet chicken look like the real thing…but we promise they taste so much better! These candies are among some of the craziest candies in our collection, and we know you’ll love their chewy fruity taste.
Overlord Review: I was hoping for this weird little treat! The colors are fun. The design is quirky. And the cherry flavor is so bold it made me drool. But the most outstanding aspect of this one is the texture. It’s almost velvety or creamy, like some of the high-end gummies I’ve sampled in Irish candy shops. These are fun and would make for a great gift to the loved one with a sweet tooth and an offbeat sense of humor.

Dorval Sour Power Wild Cherry Belts

IMG_0506.jpg

Official Description: Pucker up and savor! These delicious sour belts will tantalize your taste buds with cherry flavor that will have you smacking your lips and begging for more. Hold on tight and get ready for a wild cherry flavored thrill ride.
Overlord Review: This description is strangely sexual, but totally accurate. If you like your sweet with a slathering of sour, you’ll go mad for these. They are so good I had to hide them away so I didn’t idly eat them all in one sitting. And bonus: They are beautiful. The vivid pink shimmers with sour sugar, making the whole treat feel all the more indulgent. These are the best of the box!

Verdict: I love Candy Club. The curated box gave me something sweet, something sour, and something strange; all of which were a damn delight. My husband and I found ourselves drawn to these colorful canisters (which are reusable and recyclable) again and again. We ripped through them with relish and without mercy. Which is why their levels are pretty low in the photographs. They came filled to the top. I snapped shots a bit late!

Much like with Chococurb, I don’t think this is for the casual candy consumer. This is a succulent subscription service that urges you to treat your sweet tooth right. These are perfect for a girls night out (sneaked into a roomy purse), a cozy night in (accompanied by some Netflix and chill perhaps?), or as the essential gift for the candy lover in your life.

So, if you love a good gummy as much as I do:

Previously in this subscription service series, I’ve reviewed: Level Up, Stitch Fix, Try The World, Darby Smart, Treatsie, Chococurb, and Loot Crate.
