Checking out what is trending on Twitter always has a greater than average chance of making you lose faith in humanity. It was no surprise to me that something called #INeedStraightPrideBecause was trending. Filled with trepidation and not a small amount of self-loathing, I dove into the scrum to see what sort of monsters were out tonight.

Most homophobes are men who are terrified that a man might treat them, for one minute, they way they treat women.

For once I can say: Well done, Twitter users. Not one of the top tweets spouted actual Straight Pride idiotic rumblings. It was all either thoughtful, mocking of the terrible hashtag, or a delightful combination of the two. I’m pleasantly surprised.
