So I stumbled upon this Reddit thread the other day (a phrase that so many episodes of my life could begin with), which made me completely reassess some basic assumptions about the world.
All it said was this:
Just to be clear, we all put our phone in our pockets *screen facing towards our bodies* correct? from r/NoStupidQuestions
And my mind did a somersault and landed on its arse.
‘What? No, of course we don’t. It goes into the pocket with the screen facing outwards. It always has. I’ve never questioned it. That’s just the way I’ve always done it. I’ve never even thought about it. Though now that I am thinking a little bit about it, I guess it does kind of make sense to put it in your pocket with the screen facing inwards, just in terms of screen protection and all that. But… No. No!’
So to ease my troubled, arse-bruised mind, I wanted to apply a little science lotion to it. A gentle empirical salve. A touch of quantita—…alright you get the picture.
Here, please, Pajiba horde, indulge me in the following two-part poll.

This is an addendum to the main question at play here, simply because pondering the first part stirred up another query in me: Do people actually store their phone in the back pocket, like ever? It seems so impractical to do so, but you always see it in films and TV shows.
