Hey, He's Got The Legs For It

I’ve been attempting to watch more television, or at least more shows, right now while I don’t have too many other obligations so I can look at least partially informed about the shows I write about. I say “attempting” because half the time it goes something like this: Family Member - “What’s that?”
Me - “Oh, it’s this new show I’m watching so I can talk about it on my column.”
Family Member - “…This is terrible” *changes channel*
And so on. However, while working on watching those terrible shows I tend to see more commercials than I’d really like to and have developed strong and irrational feelings of hatred towards some of them. I discussed the creepy car insurance guy previously, but one of my other least favorite series of ads is the one for Miller Lite where the guys who don’t want Miller Lite possess feminine traits or attire. They’ve tried to soften the “ewww, girls” message by always having the bartender be a woman, but the implication that skirt wearing or purse carrying are feminine traits and no dude would ever want to be like a girl is still pretty glaring. At least to me. I’m probably over thinking this because I’ve seen them so much. Anyway, my main point is that most of the people I know who drink “lite” beer of any variety are women so I’m not sure what the advertisers think they’re achieving here by implying that people who wear skirts or carry purses are wussy losers who don’t really appreciate the subtle nuances and complexities of Miller fucking Lite. I’d say I’m boycotting it because of those ads, except I don’t drink it to begin with and they don’t deserve that much of my ire. Here’s tonight’s TV:

8:00pm: “Big Brother” on CBS. I’ve seen that video of the one dude from this show in the shower on, I think, no less than three websites and facebook so far. I hope y’all enjoyed it.

“Woman Rebel” on HBO2. Special presentation.

“Masterchef” on Fox. New time slot.

“Minute to Win It” on NBC

“Live From the Lincoln Center: South Pacific” on PBS

9:00pm: “America’s Got Talent” on NBC

“Confessions: Animal Hoarding” on Animal Planet

“Dark Blue” on TNT

“Ghost Hunters International” on SyFy. Second season finale.

“Man vs. Food” on Travel

“Man vs. Wild” on Discovery. Bear heads to Northern Australia today and I literally just heard “Beds Are Burning” in the car while running an errand so the Universe is obviously trying to tell me that I need to go to Australia. Now I just have to wait on the Universe to somehow provide time and funding for such a trip and I’ll be set!

“Plain Jane” on The CW

“Wonders of the Solar System” on Science

10:00pm: “24 Hour Restaurant Battle” on Food Network

“Chasing Mummies” on History

“The Choir” on BBCA

“Criss Angel: Mindfreak” on A&E

“Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the New York Jets” on HBO

“Hot in Cleveland” on TV Land. First season finale.

“LA Ink” on TLC

“Monsters Inside Me” on Animal Planet. This always sounds so much more aggressive than a show about parasites but then you watch it and you want to hide FOREVER because it’s terrifying. And gross. A lot of both at the same time.

“Psych” on USA

“The Real World” on MTV

“Surviving The Cut” on Discovery. Series premiere.

“Top Chef” on Bravo. New time slot.

“Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns” on TBS

Late Night Listings

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC featuring Jerry O’Connell, Carla Gugino, and T.I

“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Comedy Central featuring Edward Kohn

“The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central featuring Thomas French
