Pajiba After Dark: You Sit Down to Watch an Episode and BAM! Four Hours are Gone

Tonight is one of those nights where there’s actually a bunch of shows listed, considering that we’re fully into the summer TV season, but it really seems like there’s not much on at all. Like, as I’m typing these shows out I’m thinking “why?” but not in a mean way, in more of a genuinely curious “how did this come to happen” sort of way. Honestly, I think we just have too many TV channels and yet they keep coming up with more. There’s only so many “Law and Order” reruns to go around, people! Actually, that’s probably the next channel that will happen. The “Law and Order” channel showing nothing but 24 hours of grim procedural work featuring stony faced detectives and righteous prosecutors fighting the good fight. Here’s your Wednesday night TV:

7:00pm: “CMT Music Awards Red Carpet 2011” on CM

8:00pm: “2011 CMT Music Awards” on CMT. Again, such a strange placement for an awards show that I’m assuming is awarding music from the year 2010.

“Minute to Win It” on NBC

“Great Performances: Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival 3” on PBS

“So You Think You Can Dance” on Fox

“NHL Playoffs: Stanley Cup Finals, Game 4” on Versus. Also appearing at a strange time of year. Listen, I got nothing against hockey, but it’s goddamn June. It’s a little confusing to still be talking about a sport that involves ice, you know?

9:00pm: “America’s Got Talent” on NBC

“Extreme Couponing” on TLC

“Franklin and Bash” on TNT

“Haunted Collector” on SyFy

“Inside Nascar” on Showtime

“Man vs. Food Nation” on Travel

“Mystery Diagnosis” on OWN

“Mythbusters” on Discovery

“Operation Repo” on TruTV. Ninth season premiere.

“Web Soup” on G4. It’s a rundown of E3 which I’m certain is something some of you are interested in.

9:30pm: “Extreme Couponing: First season finale” on TLC

“Tommy Emmanuel and Friends: Live From the Balboa Theater” on PBS

10:00pm: “20/20” on ABC

“America’s Got Talent” on NBC

“Deception with Keith Barry” on Discovery

“Hollywood Treasure” on SyFy

“Men of a Certain Age” on TNT

“The Real World: Reunion Special” on MTV

“Sand Masters” on Travel

“South Park” on Comedy Central. 15th season spring finale.

“Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman” on Science. Second season premiere.

“Top Chef Masters” on Bravo

“Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” on TBS

“The World According to Paris” on Oxygen

10:30pm: “Workaholics” on Comedy Central

11:00pm: “The Electric Barbarellas” on MTV. First season finale.

Late Night Listings

“The Late Show with David Letterman” on CBS featuring Jon Cryer and Roy Haynes

“The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on NBC featuring Jada Pinkett Smith, Elle Fanning, and Lenka

“The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on CBS featuring Heather Graham and Chris Gorham

“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on NBC featuring Glenn Close, Zoe Kravitz, Jeff Musial, and Joe Jackson

“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” on Comedy Central featuring Larry King

“The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central featuring Bre Pettis
