TV is a bit confusing tonight, as there’s at least one show having it’s “Time Slot Premiere” that was on last night (“Jon Benjamin Has a Van”) another show which I literally did not know existed until yesterday is premiering tonight (“Happily Divorced”) and “Toddlers and Tiaras” is coming back. I think that last one is happening for reasons that have everything to do with the fact that the universe is a bleak and empty place devoid of a loving and just God. Also there’s the Stanley Cup final game, but if you’re not a big hockey fan the series has already given us the very best thing we could have hoped for in the form of this video of Rachel McAdams hamming it up for the Jumbotron during Game 4. Honestly, as much as “Toddlers and Tiaras” pushes me towards nihilism, the exuberance of Ms.McAdams’s chair dance pushes me back in the other direction. Here’s your Wednesday night TV:
8:00pm: “2011 NHL Stanley Cup Finals, Game 7” on NBC
“Setup Squad” on Logo
“So You Think You Can Dance” on Fox
9:00pm: “Franklin & Bash” on TNT
“Haunted Collector” on SyFy
“101 Gadgets that Changed the World” on History
“Inside Nascar” on Showtime
“Man vs. Food” on Travel
“Mystery Diagnosis” on OWN
“Mythbusters” on Discovery
“Operation Repo” on TruTV
9:30pm: “Extreme Couponing” on TLC. First season finale.
10:00pm: “Caught in the Act” on ABC
“Bert the Conquerer” on Travel
“Deception with Keith Barry” on Discovery. First season finale.
“30 Seconds to Stardom: Commercials’ Most Famous Faces” on E
“Hollywood Treasure” on SyFy
“Men of a Certain Age” on TNT
“The Real World: The [email protected]! They Should’ve Shown” on MTV
“Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman” on Science
“Toddlers and Tiaras” on TLC. Fourth season premiere. I’m pretty sure no one who reads this site finds these competitions anything but appalling. However, in a move towards making them far more disgusting I SWEAR that I saw a promo for this episode the other day that actually used the word “sexy.” There’s no evidence of it on TLC’s website, YouTube, or Google so someone must have wised up and replaced the word “sexy” with the word “knockout” because otherwise the video I did find looks exactly the same.
“Top Chef Masters” on Bravo. Third season finale.
“House of Payne” on TBS. Seventh season finale.
“The World According to Munich” on Oxygen
10:30pm: “Happily Divorced” on TV Land. Series premiere. Starring Fran Drescher, a woman I have always considered stunningly beautiful despite her voice. It really is remarkable the effect a voice can have on an individual’s attractiveness quotient, both positively and negatively.
“Jon Benjamin Has a Van” on Comedy Central. See Mr.Benjamin for an example of the above phenomena. Dude’s never going to be a conventional heart-throb or even an unconventional one the way Alan Rickman is, but I think he’s at least got a certain percentage of man-appreciators sitting up and taking a second look thanks to his voice.
