I’m in a bad mood today. There’s nothing I actually want to watch on TV tonight and I’ve been re-watching old episodes of “The X-Files” through Netflix lately and I’m reminded of a time when a television show was given time to grow its audience, when not everyone on the TV screen looked halfway to being a supermodel, and when we didn’t know about the sexual proclivities of David Duchovny (which are suspiciously similar to the sexual proclivities of Mulder). Of course, it wasn’t all good times; one look at Scully’s atrocious early ’90s wardrobe and fluffed and feathered hair will let you in on that. Also, I’ve mentioned this previously, but “The X-Files” has to have one of the worst title sequences ever. Have you ever really paid attention to it? It tells you fuck-all about the show and the production looks like it cost $5. The theme song, though, is hauntingly sparse and I love it. Anyway, here’s what’s currently on TV:
8:00 p.m.: “American Idol: Idol Gives Back” on Fox. Two hour special presentation. Oh good! I always do my acts of charity in front of television cameras. Otherwise, what’s the point?
“America’s Next Top Model” on The CW.
“The New Adventures of Old Christine” on CBS.
“PBS Special: Through a Dog’s Eyes” on PBS.
8:30 p.m.: “Accidentally on Purpose” on CBS. First season finale.
9:00 p.m.: “Fly Girls” on The CW.
“Peep Show” on BBCA.
“PBS Special: POV: Food, Inc.” on PBS.
9:30 p.m.: “High Society” on The CW. The episode is titled “retail therapy” so I expect it’s going to be all about awful people spending awful amounts of money on awful things. Enjoy!
10:00 p.m.: “Addicted” on TLC. First season finale.
“Clean House” on Style.
“Destination Truth” on SyFy. Third season finale.
“In Plain Sight” on USA.
“Law and Order: Special Victim’s Unit” on NBC.
“The Locator” on WE. Fourth season finale.
“The Real World/ Road Rules Challenge” on MTV.
“South Park” on Comedy Central.
“Top Chef Masters” on Bravo. The woman who hosts this show looks like what would happen if a Barbie doll came to life. Just very plastic looking with a grin permanently stuck on her face that kind of looks like it hurts her. I miss Padma.
“Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” on TBS, the network of Conan O’Brien.
Late Night Listings:
“The Late Show Wth David Letterman” on CBS featuring Eddie Murphy, Kaley Cuoco, and Jakob Dylan.
“The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on NBC featuring Jennifer Lopez, Chace Crawford, and Natalie Merchant.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC featuring Ice Cube, Paula Deen, and Rob Zombie.
“The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson” on CBS featuring Brooke Shields, George Wallace, and Corinne Bailey Rae.
“The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” on Comedy Central featuring Amanda Peet.
“The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central featuring Craig Robinson.
