As many of you have noticed, TV has begun winter break already so pickings are getting pretty slim. Between four month-long breaks designed so that people completely forget how much the show sucks and give it another chance (at least I think that’s what “Flash Forward” is getting at), the usual gap to allow for winter programming, and the misguided notion that people would rather spend the holidays spending time with their families and doing holiday sort of activities, we’re not going to be seeing too much in the way of new, interesting television for a while. And even after that, since the “American Idol” plague returns in the beginning of January to kill FOX’s programming for a couple months and inspiring other networks to put on insipid filler so they don’t have to compete with the most popular show in America that I’ve only ever seen maybe 20 minutes of. Some of you also noticed I listed the wrong date in yesterday’s column. I have no excuse for that. Anyway, here’s what’s taking up space on the airwaves tonight:
8:00 p.m.: “Table for 12” on TLC, Second Season Finale.
9:00 p.m.: “18 Kids and Counting” on TLC, Third Season Finale.
“Dirty Jobs” on Discovery. It’s called “Worm Grunter”. And I’m sure given the feelings that many female and some male Pajibans have towards Mike Rowe, you can manage to make that sound dirtier than it already does.
“Scrubs” on ABC.
9:30 p.m.: “Better Off Ted” on ABC.
10:00 p.m.: “The Bad Girls Club” on Oxygen.
“The Jay Leno Show” on NBC.
“Paranomal State” on A&E.
“Sci-Fi Science: Physics of the Impossible” on Science, which is one of my sister’s favorite shows.
“Teen Mom: Fallout” on MTV, because the best way to get into the spirit of the holiday is to remind yourself in the grimmest way possible that teen pregnancy rarely turns out as well as it did for Mary.
